To conclude the end of the semester we gathered up all of our findings from the past few months and created a presentation showing our journey.

So far during this semester I have explored a variety of existing projects that aim to help combat the issue of street harassment. 'Free to be' is an app by Plan International provides a platform for women to share their stories and experiences of all forms of street harassment. It gives the victim the opportunity to have their voice heard without the pressure of filing an official report. The map reflects the responses given by the users, purple dots show a negative association with a specific area eg - an incident of street harassment. And the orange dots represent positive stories told about the area. This is a good way to visually represent the stories gathered and make it clear to differentiate between good and bad areas.
'The Happy show' by Stefan Sagmeister is a good example of an interactive installation that provides an insight into the creators mind. Sagmeister uses an illustrative approach to showcase data to the viewers of the installation.
Researching the extent to which sexual harassment affects women in public spaces has given me a direction that I want to explore further. During this semester I have gathered information surrounding street harassment in Dundee. Next semester I would like to explore not only street harassment, but all forms of sexism and gender discrimination on a wider scale.

Over the past couple of months I have explored a variety of data collection methods. I collected data surrounding my daily habits and then experimented with visually drawing out the information. I also gathered information surrounding women's safety in Dundee and would like to think of ways in which I can visually represent this in the form of an installation.

From the summation of my research and generating insights one of my main focusses is to explore the attitudes and behaviours that surround the issue of not only street harassment but sexism as a whole. My other aim is to incorporate an illustrative approach and visually represent my findings as a way to engage the viewers.

At the moment I have spent a lot of time focussing on the style I want to use to visualise the data I gather. I need to spend time gathering more information surrounding sexual harassment and everyday sexism and I can then progress to data visualising the content I gather.

Next steps:
My next steps for the upcoming semester are to explore a wider variety of data collection methods so I can start to think about the content that will be incorporated in my installation. I also want to explore the option of using cultural probes as a way to generate insights. I will also begin thinking about my final concept and how I can tie together all of my findings in one installation.
